What's Simple Bundles?
Simple Bundles is compatible with any subscription app that uses Shopify's Subscription APIs. You create bundle products in Simple Bundles—mix-and-match, fixed kits, or build-your-own—and when a customer subscribes, your subscription app handles the recurring billing. On every renewal, Simple Bundles breaks the bundle order into its component SKUs so your warehouse, 3PL, or fulfillment partner sees exactly what to pick and ship. No manual breakdowns, no guesswork.
Why subscription bundles break on most Shopify stores
Many subscription apps expect a single product or variant per subscription. With bundles, you need each renewal to list every component—or fulfillment falls apart.
Your 3PL can’t see pickable bundle items 📦
When a subscription renews, many setups send a single parent bundle product to your fulfillment center. Your warehouse team sees a single bundle instead of the three individual products inside it. That leads to packing errors, customer complaints, and returns that eat into your margins.
Inventory doesn't update on recurring orders 🔁
The first order syncs fine. But when the subscription renews next month, inventory for the individual components doesn't get decremented. Over time, you oversell products you've already committed to subscribers, forcing you into backorder situations or manual inventory adjustments.

Frequently asked questions about subscription bundles
How do I set up a subscription bundle on Shopify?
First, create a bundle in Simple Bundles by adding your component products and setting the bundle price. Then, in your subscription app, add the parent bundle product and configure the subscription details—delivery frequency, billing schedule, and customer portal access. The subscription app handles the recurring billing logic, while Simple Bundles handles breaking the bundle into individual items in each order. No code is required for setup. See the step-by-step setup guide.

What happens when a subscription bundle renews?
When a subscription order renews, the subscription app creates a new Shopify order containing the parent bundle product. Simple Bundles then automatically adds the individual component products to that order using the order editing method. This works the same way in both Simple Bundles 1.0 and 2.0—both versions use the order editing approach for subscription orders. Your fulfillment team or 3PL always sees the individual items to ship, and inventory is decremented accurately for each component on every renewal.
Do both Simple Bundles 1.0 and 2.0 support subscription bundles?
Yes. Both Simple Bundles 1.0 and 2.0 fully support subscription bundles using the order editing method. When a subscription order is created or renewed, Simple Bundles adds the individual component products to the order post-checkout, regardless of which version you're using. It's worth noting that Shopify's Cart Transform API does not yet support selling plans (which include subscriptions). Because of this, subscription orders are processed via order editing in both versions—a reliable method that ensures your fulfillment and inventory stay accurate on every renewal cycle.
