If you’re a Shopify merchant looking to offer customizable product bundles without the hassle of creating hundreds of variants, infinite options bundles are a flexible, scalable solution. With Simple Bundles, you can let customers mix and match products, choose custom add-ons, and build personalized bundles all while avoiding clutter in your Shopify admin and bypassing Shopify’s 100 variant and 3 option limit (or 2,048 variants for Shopify Plus merchants).
In this guide, we’ll explain what infinite options bundles are, how they work, and when to use them to enhance your customer experience and increase average order value.
Simple bundle vs. infinite options bundle: what’s the difference?
Simple Bundles offers two ways to build bundles: Simple bundles and infinite options bundles, each designed for different types of product experiences.
Use the simple bundle builder when your bundle includes a fixed set of products or a manageable number of variants typically under Shopify’s 100-variant and 3-option limit. This is ideal for straightforward multipacks, single-SKU bundles, or limited product configurations.
Use the infinite options bundle builder when you want to offer more complex bundle choices, like mix-and-match sets or fully customizable gift boxes. It’s especially useful when your bundle exceeds Shopify’s variant limits or requires more flexibility in how customers choose their products.
Both builders work seamlessly with Shopify and allow you to track inventory and fulfill orders with ease — the right one just depends on the complexity of your bundle.

What is an infinite options bundle?
An infinite options bundle is a type of product bundle built using line item properties instead of Shopify variants. That means your customers can select their bundle components (like color, size, style, etc.) using dropdowns, checkboxes, or text inputs without you having to create every possible combination in your Shopify admin.
This bundle type is called “infinite options” because it supports an unlimited number of combinations. You’re no longer limited by Shopify’s 100-variant cap.

Any scenario where you’d otherwise need dozens (or hundreds) of Shopify variants
By using Simple Bundles to create these, you avoid the manual headaches of variant management while providing an intuitive customer experience.
How it works with Simple Bundles
Here’s a high-level breakdown of how to set up an infinite options bundle using Simple Bundles:
Create an infinite options bundle on Simple Bundles: Inside Simple Bundles, select the “Infinite options bundle” type. This mode allows you to use line item properties to collect customer selections.
Add an options selector widget to your product page: This enables customers to select options. Unlike simple bundle types, infinite options bundles do not use Shopify's native variants and theme selectors, necessitating the addition of the infinite options selector.
Add your bundle components: You’ll define which child products or SKUs will be part of the bundle. If they have variants, they'll be added as well.
Track inventory and fulfill like normal When a customer purchases the bundle, Simple Bundles breaks it down into the individual SKUs behind the scenes. This allows for accurate inventory tracking and seamless fulfillment.
